Is stainless steel jewellery any good? 316L, explained

James Lewin 2 min read

Stainless steel gets a bad name because of the cheap stuff. The truth is, the right grade of steel is one of the best materials you can wear. Here is what to look for, and why it matters.

Not all steel is equal

Every Two Kxngs piece is forged from 316L stainless steel, the same marine grade used in boat fittings and surgical tools. It is built to survive salt, water and daily life. Cheaper jewellery uses lower grades or a thin plate over a mystery-metal core, which is where the problems start.

Waterproof, and it stays that way

316L does not rust. You can train in it, shower in it and swim in it without a second thought. Our gold pieces add an 18K PVD finish, a bonded layer of colour that holds up far better than the flaky plating you find on fast-fashion chains.

No green skin, no drama

The reason cheap jewellery turns your skin green is low-grade metal and thin plating reacting with sweat. 316L is corrosion resistant and sits well with most skin, so it stays looking new and keeps your neck looking normal.

How long does it actually last?

With basic care, years and years. That is the whole idea behind our Lifetime Guarantee: we back the quality of the piece for as long as you own it. Steel this grade does not fade after a summer.

Care is simple

Warm water, mild soap and a soft cloth. That is the whole routine. More answers here, or shop the chains.
