Waterproof for real: what your chain can actually survive

James Lewin 1 min read

Waterproof gets slapped on a lot of jewellery that absolutely is not. Here is what our 316L pieces actually handle, so you never have to take yours off out of fear.

The gym

Sweat is where cheap chains die. Salt and moisture eat low-grade metal and lift thin plating. 316L shrugs it off, so you can train in it every day.

The shower

Fine, daily. Soap and water will not hurt it, and a rinse actually helps keep it clean. Just avoid letting shampoo and product build up over time.

The ocean and the pool

Salt water is no problem for 316L. Chlorine is mostly fine for the steel itself, but over the long run heavy, repeated chlorine exposure is the one thing worth rinsing off afterwards, especially on gold PVD.

The one rule

Keep it away from harsh chemicals: bleach, industrial cleaners, strong solvents. Nothing you would want on your skin anyway. Everything else in a normal life, your chain can take.

A quick clean keeps it new

Warm water, mild soap, soft cloth, dry it off. That is the whole routine. Want the full breakdown on the steel? Read 316L, explained.
